Solved compatibility issues / MS updates

Yesterday my laptop took a big hit. I am no way a software/computer guy.:(..

First, these are the apps / programs I am running, that hopefully are relevant.

1) M.S. Defender (I can manually turn everything off, when I go to the home page, it states I am fully protected..Still haven't figured that one out...

2) Free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware..I believe it is only active when I turn the sweep on?, Is that a true observation on my part??

3) Paid version of Webroot anti virus W/ spy sweeper 7.0.4.127.

My questions: I think most here would recommend M.I.S. rather than Microsoft defender...If that is true, should I un-install the defender before installing the M.I.S.?

Also does anyone see any conflicts between these apps. I am currently running???

Back to yesterdays big crash....I was lucky enough to enter Task manager and do a restore point, went back arbitrarily to the time my machine seemed to be accepting M.S. updates.

The only major thing I changed was the DEP so I could down load a fight sim C.D. a few days back. Used it for several years before, W/O any problems, I un-stalled it about a year ago. I have not installed it since the recovery and changed the DEP back to its original setting...(Could that have caused such a Major inciedent??)

Also, (After the restore), I have changed my M.S. updates so I can download but I can choose when I want to install them.. When I download and Install the updates do I have to let the machine cycle through a start up each time for every installation??

Of course, my machine specs are listed.

Thanks a bunch in advance for any help/suggestions..

Alex

[I will assume that M.I.S. is actually MSE Microsoft Security Essentials.
If correct, just leave defender alone, it will be turned off when you install MSE.

Malwarebytes the free version just runs when you scan, so no conflict

YOu restart after an update only when it tells you to

Hope I guessed right with mse and answered all that you need.

Well, Shucks....,
I have been havin issues downloading and running MS updates...Still..:o

This last atempt, I turned off all spyware, antivius and cherry picked one update at a time to download and install. For example, software up dates for ms word, excell and most importantly ms security....

As I mention before, the history logs look good until I downloaded a clean purchased copy of a flight sim, from Real Flight...Which has now been completely deleted for downloading experimentation purposes.

One other minor detail of observation my ram capacity is at 37% capaicty and after the settle down time. both cores added, algebraically are running around 15% per a intel desktop, add on bar, meter,,,

DEP settings look correct (off), everything looks OK, to this rookie....Any more idea's or suggestions?....

BTW this is not a 3 alarm situation, so please take ya'lls time and of course if anyone needs any questions answered I will certainly oblige.

Regards,
Alex

P.S. What about the pop up settings....? anyting along those lines?

Hello!

If you want help with Microsoft Update, please post the error code with relevant KB for each update causing each problem, unless the issue is with all of them, in which case just post the error code. After that, I shall either ask for particular logs, or post a specific fix for that error code.

Thanks!

Richard

Richard and all,

Sorry for the delay...It was error code 646...But I busted through...my machine is now willfully and happily downloading critical and important updates....:D

lesson learned?........The easiest and fastest way from point "A" to "B" is a straight line of tenacity..Yup, that old cliché.

Actually, I did, what I should have done....Just sit back and take a deep breath relax and think..The solution was found in microsofts quick fix download. :o

Alex
