Security settings for group of files

    Hello All:

I am using Vista Home Basic. I have set security settings of my partition D as "Full Control" EXCEPT "deny" checkbox checked for "Delete Subfolders and files" and "Delete" so nobody can accidentally delete files. These permissions are set for the user "Authenticated User" and there are no other permissions inherited or any other users granted any permissions.

My problem is that when I need to delete multiple files, I have to change permissions of each file separately to allow deletion of them OR I have to change permission of the entire D drive for deletion and set it back to original as above.

Selecting only the interested files and changing their permissions collectively is not possible.

Is there any way I can do this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Best regards,
    Ramesh

    Welcome Ramesh
I think that if you use this adminsitrator, you will be able to accomplish what you want.

To make it an easy operation, you must always use this adminstrator for everyday use, which is not suggested. The choice is yours, however.
This is for Seven and Vista.

Thank you very much Richard for your reply. So that means it is not possible to collectively change permissions of select files unless the you use Administrator account. That's really weird. In fact I find the security/permissions setting concept in Vista very complex. Have not used Windows7 yet but hope they have made the things simple there.

Sorry, with your answer, I read your question again and feel that this may be the better response.

This may accomplish what you want, but it must be done for each item as you have mentioned.
These are the only ways that I know.

Thanks again Richard for this information. To put it in a simple words what I want to accomplish is set "absolute" permissions to select folders collectively and not one by one. With the information you have provided I conclude that it's not possible in Vista like we do it in Unix.

There might be command line options for achieving this as I understand there are quite a few things that are not possible using GUI but can be done through command line in MS Windows.
