Can't Detect A Virus...

Hi there, I'm new, so I'm not too sure if this is the correct place to be asking for help, but I'm going to take a shot in the dark and hope it is!

I run Windows Vista Home Premium on my Laptop, along with Windows 7 (Of course). My laptop is fairly new, as I bought it back in November. I am currently using Kaspersky Anti-Virus, and it runs regular checks. Here lately my computer has become horribly laggy, often times freezing me out of webpages and screens and Messengers. It can take me a while simply to open a new tab on my internet screen (and I do have High Speed internet). I'm afraid I might have a virus, but my Anti-Virus doesn't detect one, even when I do a full system scan! I've defragmented and everything, but it doesn't help. So it must be a virus, I'm guessing...

Any idea how to hunt down this pesky problem? Or if something else is causing it?

Hello LadyLexi and welcome to the forums

Can you do the following things for me please?

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Download and install MBAM from here
Run a full scan and attach the log with your next post for me to analyse

OTL

Download OTL to your desktop.
Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed to let it run uninterrupted.
When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.
Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.

Once OTL has completed its first scan it will save notepad copies of the scans in the folder that OTL was started from. Unless set to produce an Extras log it will only produce OTL.txt in subsequent scans.

A copy of an OTL fix log is saved in a text file at

:\_OTL\MovedFiles
in most cases this will be C:\_OTL\MovedFiles

Please attach both OTL.txt and Extras.txt with your next post for me to analyse

HijackThis

Please download HijackThis from Trend Micro - Hijackthis

Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. Attach the log with your next post

aswMBR

Please close any open work because sometimes this will cause a BSOD
Download aswMBR from here and save it to your desktop
Right click on it and select run as administrator
When it opens, click on the Scan button
When the scan completes, click on the Save log button and attach the log with your next post
If you do encounter a BSOD then try again - if the BSODs are persistant then let me know

Tom
