Redirect Virus

I have something going on in my computer where every time I use a search engine my results get taken to some seemingly random page but then a box pops up saying "you have chosen to open:" and sometimes it will says just "s" or it will say "search" followed by something like this is an application/json. I always close it. My first three times clicking a link (after doing a search) it will get redirected and the box pops up asking me to d/l. After that I can click the results of my search fine. As soon as I do a new search, it repeats the problem.
Also I always have IE running when I open task manager, yet I never use IE (id actually like to take the trash off my computer but apparently good ol' M$ likes us vulnerable). I end process but it comes back in time. Sometimes there are two IE's running.
Im literally at my wits end. Im just ready to wipe out my computer and start over because of this thing. Coming here for help is my last shot...Im considering dusting off the XP discs and put that on here...at least I can delete IE off XP.....

any advice? I could sure use it.

also I already ran combofix *yikes* (im desperate)

Edit: here is my HiJackThis Log (after looking around I see it is usually requested for help)

Hi Mysticx, and welcome to Vista Forums

I once experienced a similar problem.
After opening a few pages,
I always ended up on a page where I was asked to fill out a captcha,
and click the OK button before I could be connected to the requested page.
I always closed the page immediately.
Sometimes, a different page opened than the one I clicked.
AVG, which at that time was my anti-virus,
had reported no presence of malware or a virus.
After some searching I found out that a file named csrss.exe,
normally located in the System32 folder,
also was located in the Temp folder ( "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Temp" )
After removing the file (using Unlocker)
the problem was solved.
It's a good idea to search through that folder,
to find out if the file csrss.exe is present.
Please, also wait for advice from a security expert at the Forum.

Sweet

You say that you already ran Combofix, you should never do this unless instructed to do so by a trained expert - its an incredibly powerful tool completely capable of crippling your system.

Can I have the Combofix log please?

HijackThis doesn't really help with modern infections, it doesn't show me enough information.

Can you do the following for me please?

OTL

Download OTL to your desktop.
Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed to let it run uninterrupted.
When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.
Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.

Once OTL has completed its first scan it will save notepad copies of the scans in the folder that OTL was started from. Unless set to produce an Extras log it will only produce OTL.txt in subsequent scans.

A copy of an OTL fix log is saved in a text file at

:\_OTL\MovedFiles
in most cases this will be C:\_OTL\MovedFiles

aswMBR

Please close any open work because sometimes this will cause a BSOD
Download aswMBR from here and save it to your desktop
Right click on it and select run as administrator
When it opens, click on the Scan button
When the scan completes, click on the Save log button and attach the log with your next post
If you do encounter a BSOD then try again - if the BSODs are persistant then let me know

Tom
