Security canter can't be started.

    Security canter can't be started.

    Last weekend I had a bad trojan situation. I enlisted the help of Malwarebytes. This apparently cleared a lot of trojans from my laptop.
    Now I have this situation where my security center is off, when I click turn on now. I get 'security center can't be started'. I have looked through the many fixes but they say to switch it on through services, but my entry "security center" is missing.
    I am sure this has been done before but I can't find out how to fix it from a reliable source.
    Help would be wonderful.

    Hello Hob and welcome to the forums

    Can you please copy and paste the contents of the MBAM log for us please? I'm currently doing a malware removal degree, so I'm not allowed to help you with any malware removal. I can, however, assist you with getting this service up and running again

    Command Prompt

    1. Open your start menu and in the search box, type Command Prompt
    2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
    3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

      sc query type= service > %SYSTEMDRIVE%\tom982.txt & start %SYSTEMDRIVE%\tom982.txt

    4. This will open a text file called tom982.txt please copy and paste the contents of this into your next post. If it doesn't open, a copy can be found in the root folder of your main drive (e.g. C:\tom982.txt).

    There is no option to run as admin. Carrying on regardless gets me nowhere as I cannot input into the command prompt. Sorry.

    As you can see, they're identical So your Security Service looks fine from this side of things. What I would like you to try now is called a SFC (System File Checker) scan, this will check for all of the critical Windows files and replace/fix any missing/corrupt ones.

    Batch File

    1. Go to Start > Run to bring up the run box
    2. In the box, type notepad.exe and press OK to open Notepad
    3. Copy (Ctrl+C) all of the text in the following box and paste (Ctrl+V) it into Notepad

sfc /scannow
pause
    4. Go to File > Save As... and save it to your Desktop named fix.bat. Make sure you change the Save as type to All Files (*.*)
    5. Locate fix.bat on your Desktop and double-click on it
    6. Let it run and let me know if it finds any Integrity Violations

    It doesn't always produce results. I asked whether it found any "Integrity Violations" in my last post, this tells us whether the log file will contain any useful information.

    Okay, no luck there I don't know what was wrong with your config.sys, but it's repaired now. The sidebar problems are completely normal and are nothing to worry about.

    Can you follow the steps outlined here please?
