Program (Malwarebytes) Not Showing Up in Start-up Programs

I have been using Malwarebytes for a couple of years now, and have had it running when Windows starts up since I have the paid version, therefore it runs in the background as additional protection, in addition to my regular anti-virus software (Nortons Internet Security Suite).... whenever there is an update notification to the program to a newer version I allow it to update, of course...

They recently updated to a new version (1.65.0), however after this update was installed successfully, I noticed that in my start-up programs (msconfig > Startup tab) it is not indicating that it's even in that list EVEN THOUGH the program IS starting with Windows (option IS checked off in Malwarebytes to start with Windows & Malwarebytes icon appears in my bottom task bar after Windows fully starts, & is listed as 'Running' under msconfig > Services tab)...

It was never like this before this new version update, and always was listed/checked off in my start-up programs... the bottom line is that EVERYTHING is just as it SHOULD be with my Malwarebytes (it starts WITH Windows and IS confirmed as 'running'), however Windows itself is NOT indicating to me that it's even in my Start-up programs list (it doesn't even appear AT ALL in that list of start-up programs, let alone, checked off - so in other words, it's not even there listed to be able to select and check off)... any possible fix to this??? Thanks for any help.

Welcome
Several people including myself had the same problem. I used system restore to go back to the older version,(you lose nothing with the prior version). When they fix the bug or come out with a newer version you can try to update it again.

Hello Richard,

Well that's good to know that it's just not my system acting this way with Malwarebytes... and Ok, I think I'll just wait for a newer version to come out... they'll probably come out with a newer version sooner than later since I'm SURE this bug has been reported to them... for the time being, as long as it's running when Windows starts (even without it being listed by the system), that's fine with me... thanks again for your help, and have a great weekend.

Just read your last post again. I dont think its enabled, check to see if real time is enabled.
If it is not in startup, it is not making real time protection (called enabled in Malwarebytes)

Richard, well ALL my settings are set EXACTLY the same as before their last update... before, it was always in my Start-up programs, as it SHOULD be now too. I attached a screen shot of my current Protection settings.

As you will see in the image I provided, the fact that 'Start protection module with Windows' is enabled, means JUST that... it SHOULD be in my Start-up programs AS IT ALWAYS WAS... like I said my settings have NOT changed since I have had the program, but after this last update, this problem is occurring. Thanks again.

Boot the computer and make sure its still enabled. It seems that this new version needs a fix. Me and several members, here, have the problem that it is not in startup and after each boot it not enabled.

Hi Richard, thanks again for your reply... I have rebooted my computer several times since the update (I don't leave my computer on at night when I go to sleep, and AS I ALWAYS do every day, just start it up in the morning)... EACH TIME I have rebooted my computer since I have noticed the issue, I have checked my Malwarebyte settings to make sure they have not changed, AND I also check to see if it's in my Startup programs, of course, but still with the same result...

I actually just sent a direct email to Malwarebytes support regarding this issue (to [email protected]), so AS SOON as I get a reply from them, whatever their reply ends up being, I'll post it on here for everyone to read. Thanks again.

THIS IS THE RESPONSE THAT I RECEIVED FROM MALWAREBYTES SUPPORT (I have not gotten around to performing these steps yet, but I will tomorrow):

Hello and welcome to the Malwarebytes consumer helpdesk. Thank you for choosing Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as your malware security solution, my name is Tom Mercado and I'll be assisting you today.

Please reboot a time or two, see if that fixes it. If that fails let's collect additional information off the system to see if we can spot any issues.

Please download the MBAMCheck batch file from the link below. Save this it to your desktop, double-click it to run, and then attach the log generated to your next reply. These results will give us some detailed installation parameters for Malwarebytes software.

Thank you for helping others.

MalwareBytes JUST had an update today which explained one of the reasons for it was to fix this exact issue, but even after downloading the update AND restarting my computer (twice), MB is STILL not showing up in my list of Start-up programs, even though it DOES run when Windows starts, just like before... so, I have no idea what else to do now but just wait until there are others with the same issue AGAIN, and for them to resolve it... is everyone else still having this issue even after the most recent supposed 'Fix' update today?? Thanks.

Sorry for the delay in answering. Sometimes pressures on my side of the computer get in the way.
In any event, I never noticed the Malwarebytes does not appear in my startup items, because it does start with Windows, which is when it is needed. My Malwarebytes is not in my startup and dont think that it ever was. My problem with the prior version is that it did not start with Windows.
I think that if it does start with Windows, this is the way it is suppose to work. In any event it serves the purpose intended. If yours starts with Windows that is all that is needed.
