Free real-time malware.

I assume that you are looking for antimalware programs? :)

What you have listed above are a combination of Antivirus and AntiMalware programs.

Antivirus
Microsoft Security Essentials
Avast
(these are the only two I would recommend using for free antivirus programs)
AVG has a free antivirus program but I would not recommend. I, personally, found it to be a resource hog unless something has changed.

AntiMalware
Spybot Search & Destroy (this is an ok program)
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (the only I recommend)

SUPERAntispyware
SpywareBlaster

AdAware
Spyware Terminator
ThreatFire
(these I never recommend...not that they are bad but the others I noted are much better)

Most of our members including myself use Microsoft Security Essentials with the free version of Malwarebytes for a once a week scan. In addition I use the free online scan eset online security for an additional once a week scan.

Good call...I agree. With this scan it is easiest to use Internet Explorer but can be done with Firefox as well. You can find that here.

I think that your call for Malwarebytes is excellent. I suggest the free version, because that is enough. I actually have the paid version, however, which I won in a contest.

I've tried Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free, but realize that I need real-time malware protection.

Well....if it were me and I absolutely needed the real-time scanning ability, I would spend the $25 for a lifetime license for Malwarebytes. Yes I know you asked for free, but for the price you really can't go wrong. If you are absolutely against paying the $25 I would then go with SpyBot (it has a new version right now but I have not used it).

We know what you mean but that is a strange way of putting it.
