AV programs system resources

I have just installed x64 and I need a good AV program with low system resources.

I always checks AV-Comparatives to be informed of the best antivirus programs but i would like to know wich ones that dont slow down my system too much.

As far as I know all Norton products use alot of the system.
But what about NOD32, Kaspersky or avast? maybe there is another good AVprog i havent listed for x64 with low load on the system?

Hi OneZeroOne,

Avast and AVG are some great free antivirus programs. Just make sure that any antivirus program that you use has all of it's email scanning options turned off.

Avast - Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition

AVG - (Do a Custom install and don't install email scanning) AVG Free Advisor - Installation files & documentation

Never install McAfee or Norton antivirus program on Vista. They are not compatible with Windows Mail and will corrupt it. See the "First" section here:

Hope this helps,

If you want the best then get Kaspersky AV 7
Sure it uses more Resources than NOD or AVG but its Better and since you are installing it on a Machine capable of running Vista then you should have no problems.

If you still want something that consumes very less Resources then go for NOD 32.

Thanks for your help. No Norton and McAfee will never get on my harddrive. I tried Avast Home Edition for a while and it didnt use alot of the resources at all and Avast is good but not the best. Didnt like kaspersky cuz I whant a standalone AV since im running Comodo beta 3. The choice fell on Nod32 beta testing, always fun to run beta tests and Nod32 does what it's told.

The beta version of Nod32 AV work greate on my machine too.

It's verry sad too see so slow development for vista 64 compatible AV's and FW's, But when the final releases of comodo's firewall and Nod32's AV is out I can rest in peace :D

Thx for all the help, it's not easy with all the poor choices in AV software.
