Network adapter not detected

Hi all, I've just replaced my hard drive on my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop, as my old one was defective. Having re-installed Vista Home Premium SP1 with the original CD. Also supplied originally was the drivers and utilities CD and home media CD, all which have seem to loaded ok.

My problem is that I cannot connect to the internet. windows cannot detect the network adapter and the LAN Icon is missing. I have downloaded the latest drivers from Dell via a memory stick, but no joy. Any help or advice/questions would be much appreciated.

Have you checked for the device(s) under the device manager? Did you install all drivers including chipset drivers? Does it work in safe mode? Is it only wireless that doesn't work or also ethernet?

Thanks for reply, all drivers were installed including chipset. Nothing in safe mode. Network adapter not installed, and does not work in wireless/ethernet mode

Thanks for that, it has a slide switch which is in the on position. Still no network adapter detected

Hi again not with laptop at moment. but will be after 21st so hopefully get back online

maybe, go into the device manager, look for the network adapter tab, see if there is a network adapter listed. If there is, right click on the adapter, choose uninstall and restart your computer. The network adapter should automatically re-install upon start up. If the network adpater does not automatically re-install, go to the computer's manufacture's page and look for drivers and driver updates. The way to get into device manager is click on START BUTTON, in search, write DEVICE MANAGER. this opens up your drivers list. then from there look for network adapter. Click on the + button on the left or right side of the network adapter name. in the drop down menu, right click on the name of the adapter. choose uninstall. click yes. follow all directions to uninstall and then restart your computer. When you start up your computer again, and if the network adapter re-installs automatically, you should see a new driver being installed sign pop up on your home screen. i hope this helps.
