Re: Icon Cache - Rebuild

Hi MLBPlayer,

You can empty the Recycle Bin before or after the restart, but it would be best to wait until afterwards in case you need or want to restore the deleted IconCache.dbfor whatever reason.

Re: Icon Cache - Rebuild

brink,
I emptied after restart and my missing icons didn't show up and the iconcache.db wasnt that much smaller, by a few kb. do you think it would work if I emptied the recycle bin before restart?

Re: Icon Cache - Rebuild

MLBPlayer,

It will not make any difference before or after.

What are the items that the icons are missing from?

Re: Icon Cache - Rebuild

MLBPlayer,

I would go ahead and change the drive icon manually back to what it should be. You can use either method in this tutorial to do it, but use C:\Windows\System32\imageres.dll,30 for the default hard drive icon path instead. If you have another icon you would prefer to use instead, then that will be fine to.

Drive Icon Change

MLBPlayer,

I'm glad to hear that you got it to work for you now. I updated the tutorial to reflect your findings.

Thank you for the feedback,

Re: Icon Cache - Rebuild

Shawn, I have about 1.5 TB of .avi files and only about half the thumbnails were showing up. I tried method 2 first because that seemed easiest. When I again cheked I now had about 80% showing thumbnails, but the rest still were not.

I then tried method #2, but made a mistake and when I rebooted I saw that the thumb nail cache db was still there though, but smaller, and I didn't have any thumbs. I deleted that file again, and rebooted and now I have no thumb nail cache db at all, and no thumbnails.

I have restarted my computer 4 times, and I have went to windows folder setting and ticked the box that says don't show thumbnail, hit apply, then unchecked and hit reply in an effort to make the thumbnails come back, but nothing works.

Do I just need to start my system a few more times, or did I screw up deleteing that cahe.db a second time?
