Re: DEP - Enable or Disable

Maf4800,

You might just add the Adobe program EXE file to the DEP exception list instead of disabling DEP completely to see if that will work to. This way DEP can still protect you. You can see how in step 7 here.

DEP - Turn On or Off for Programs

Re: DEP - Enable or Disable

Thanks Again. I tried that as well and recieve the following: This program must run with data execution protection (DEP) enabled. You cannot turn off DEP for this program.

Re: DEP - Enable or Disable

Well, if you have a good antivirus and anti spyware/adware programs, you should be ok with DEP disabled to use the scanner with the Adobe program.

Re: DEP - Enable or Disable

Maf4800, I would uninstall Norton completely. It has been know to cause all sorts of problems in Vista. I would not be surprised if this may be responsible for your problem.

I would go with the free Avast antivirus:

Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition

and use Windows Firewall or the free Comodo Firewall Pro:

Free Firewall Protection Software Best Firewall Computer Security Free Personal Firewall

Re: DEP - Enable or Disable

It should be listed in Programs and Features to be able to uninstall it.

Uninstall or Change a Program

If not, then you may need to use the Norton Removal Tool.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

Re: DEP - Enable or Disable

The Home edition is free, where the Pro edition is not. You can see the feature differences here:

Re: DEP - Enable or Disable

I'm running into some trouble with BitDefender Backup:

Click the image to open in full size.
I followed the instructions exactly as you said, and the Command Prompt says DEP is disabled. (Run as admin, rebooted after.) Any ideas?

This also happened after I explicitly told it to disable DEP for backup.exe.
