Chuck,

I would recommend that you create the Recovery Disc from using the tutorial from Create a Recovery Disc , and then use it to run a Startup Repair.

My friend is having a problem logging onto his Vista machine. It's been a while since he's logged on and he forgot his password. Normally I would have him log into safe mode and then fix it from there but whenever he loads up safe mode it comes right back to the log on screen for windows and doesn't give an administration option or anything. Any other thing we could try?

Hello Gregalen, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Your friend could use either option in Method Three in this tutorial to reset the password.

Have you tried both methods already?

What does it do instead?

What were you wanting to do? There may be another way of doing it other than going through Safe Mode.
