Re: System Restore Points - Stop XP Dual Boot Delete

Hi rseiler,

Welcome to Vista x64 Forums.

I would just do it from within XP to be safe. This way you can use the download and not even have to enter the registry. You can always manually create a new restore point in Vista afterwards to replace the deleted ones.

Hi,

True, but what's not replaceable are all my "Previous Versions" of things that are stored up. Those would all go away.

rseiler,

I suppose you could do a Complete PC Backup to save everything, then make the change to the XP settings. When done, do a Restore Complete PC for Vista.

It's the only thing I can think of that may help your situation.

Is "Load Hive" really not a valid option? I thought its purpose was to be able to "remotely" edit another system's Registry. Perhaps someone experienced with that particular function of Regedit can confirm.

rseiler, I do not know if it is or not. You might post this same question in one of the forums or newsgroups to get more exposer on it. Hopefully someone will know of the solution for you.

Sorry,
Shawn

Re: System Restore Points - Stop XP Dual Boot Delete

After applying stop xp.reg xp still removes vista restore points. In xp can't see vista drive. The drive letters change in each os so that c: is vista in vista and c: is xp in xp, could that be causing my problem, or maybe the page file location?

Re: System Restore Points - Stop XP Dual Boot Delete

Hi LennyP,

Welcome to Vista x64 Forums.

Having the driver letters show as C: for the OS when you start in each OS is normal. The page file for the OS should be on the same drive or partition that the OS is installed on to help avoid problems.

I know, you probably did, but I have to ask.

Did you do this from within XP and restart XP afterwards?

Do you have more than one XP installed? If so, you will need to apply this to each one installed.

Yes, in xp and restarted, and no only one xp, but xp and vista on 2 different drives, one on each. I think I will move the page file, vista put it on the other drive when it installed.

Re: System Restore Points - Stop XP Dual Boot Delete

LennyP,

I'm not sure why XP would still be deleting the Vista restore points if it is no longer able to see Vista.

I would definitely have Vista's page file back on a drive other than the one XP is on.

When viewing the vista drive from vista in Disk mgt the system files are on the D: drive? Moved the paging files to their respective drives, still no restore files.
Thanks lenny
