| vista home | I am having the same problem with the User Profile service failed logon. I have tried all your solutions and nothing has helped. My right side is empty. I am the administrator and can't do anything. I don't seem to find how to get in the built-in administrator account. I am not very computer smart and can't figure out how to reinstall. I have a disk that came with my Dell (reinstallation DVD) do I use this disk. Please help me!!! |

Hi LRaulerson, Welcome to Vista Forums. ![]() Yes, that would be the DVD that you would use to reinstall Vista. It will be either a Express, or more likely, a Recovery installation DVD. Either way installs pretty much the same way. Just place the DVD in the drive and restart the computer. You can see the rest of the installation instructions below. It may vary a bit if it is a Recovery DVD at the beginning, but it's basically the same. How to Do a Clean Install with a Full Version of Vista Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Vista Home premium | Re: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded. HELP!!!!! I am having real problems trying to resolve this problem. My profile/user account is the administrator, my wives is a standard account. While trying to solve via standard account, by using your tips, it is stopping me from actioning as it wants admin password, which I type, then does not proceed any further. I cannot delete my account & I also have tried & failed via cmd to disable admin account. This is driving me nuts, & I just want smoeone to tell me how to get access back for my account ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| vista home | Re: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded. Thanks for all the info. I decided to try one more time the regedit. I found the SId with bak at the end of it and tried to rename it and delete it but it wouldnt let me. said The specified key name already exists. I do have a number above the one that has .bak , with all the same numbers without the .bak. I even tried to delete it and it wouldnt work. Any other suggestions before I try and reinstall. I dont have a disk to back up everything. I did put the reinstallation disk in and try and run it but it asked for password to continue but it wont take my password. I am very frustrated with the whole computer at this moment, I could throw it out the window!! Thanks!! |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded. Thanks for this, Brink. I managed to fix this problem using safe mode and your "Option 1" instructions. 2 comments: 1) When in REGEDIT, I found I already had a "S-1-5..... folder (SID key) .bak" without any ".bak" at the end of it, so I had to rename that to something else first. 2) This problem occurred for me on a new Vista Ultimate machine that I bought only 3 weeks ago. Had no problems until this issue today, which occurred immediately after Windows Update had rebooted after installing the following updates: - Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista - Update for Windows Vista - Microsoft Office Powerpoint Viewer 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) - 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1 (SP1) All installed on 17th Feb 2008. Not sure if one of these is what is causing these problems for everyone. Anyway, thanks again - total lifesaver! |

From that account try Option One again. Shawn |

Rename the one without .bak that has the same number as the one with .bak and add .bak to the end of it, then remove .bak from the other one. Shawn |
