Re: Personal User Folder - Restore Missing Folder

Hi Mojopin85, and welcome to Vista Forums.

To verify, make sure that you are using the following for them.

Music:
%USERPROFILE%\Music
shell:My Music

Downloads:
%USERPROFILE%\Downloads
shell:downloads

It should change this location in the registry for you as well, sometimes after a restart, but check to verify it has the correct location for Pictures as well.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Re: Personal User Folder - Restore Missing Folder

Hello, my music folder and pictures folder are both yellow folders. I did the steps above but they both have the default location. In step 4 (insert below) it says if it does, go to step... but then it doesn't give a next step.

4. In the right pane, check to see if the missing personal user folder (under Name column) has the default %USERPROFILE% location (under Data column) for it.
NOTE: You can see all of the default locations in the screenshot below. If it does not have the default location, then proceed to step 5 to change it. If it is, then go to step .

Hello Cueball, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Use this tutorial instead to restore the default greenish folder icon for the Music and Pictures folders.

Personal User Shell Folders

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi Brink,

Thanks for the quick reply. I have checked, and both downloads and pictures have the correct information in the registry editor. Also, when I type shell:My Pictures or shell:downloads nothing is found. If I type shell:My Music the Music folder is found. Thsis is also true of the rest of the folders.

I'm happy to hear that it sorted itself out for you.

Did you logoff and logon, or restart the computer between then? That can usually help reset them when the correct locations are in the registry for them.
