Internet Explorer No Add-ons Shortcut

How to Create a "Internet Explorer No Add-ons" Shortcut in Vista

information   Information
This will allow you to download and restore the Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) shortcut for either the 32 bit or 64 bit Vista.
Note   Note
Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) is primarily a troubleshooting tool to help determine if you have a bad add-on installed in Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) loads Internet Explorer with all add-ons, such as ActiveX controls or toolbars, turned off.
Tip   Tip
To see if you have the 32 bit or 64 bit version of Vista:
  • Open the Start Menu
  • Right click on the Computer button and click on Properties
  • You will see you version to the right of System type

EXAMPLE: Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)
IE7_No_Add-Ons.jpg

6. Move the shortcut to where you like for easy use.
7. When done, you can delete the downloaded .zip file on the desktop if you like, or save it to use again.

OPTION TWO
To Manually Create the "IE No Add-ons" Shortcut

1. Right click on a empty area on desktop, and click on New and Shortcut.
2. Type in bold below into the location area, and click on the Next button.
  • If You Have 32-bit Vista Installed -
    • "%ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff
  • If You Have 64-bit Vista Installed -
    • "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -extoff
3. Type Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) for the name, and click on the Finish button.
NOTE: You can name this anything you would like though.
4. Move the Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) shortcut on the desktop to where you like for easy use.
That's it,
Shawn

I dont get the Step 4 "Click on Allow for UAC prompt." I just right click the file and I want to move it to my start menu but it only gives me the options to move it to desktop or documents. How do I move it to my Start Menu?

Hello ShortManTuff, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Usually if you have UAC turned on, after you open the ZIP file you will get the UAC prompt asking you to click Continue (step 4) to allow the ZIP file to open. Especially if you use a 3rd party ZIP program.

After you have extracted the shortcut from the ZIP file, this tutorial below will show you how you can add or move it to the Start menu.

Hope this helps,

You would do the same thing as above with the Start Menu, but with this tutorial below for a normal IE7 shortcut instead.

You can also right click on the C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe (32 bit Vista) or C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe (64 bit Vista) file and click on Send To and Desktop (create shortcut), then move it to the Start menu.

I want to try this, but everytime I try to save or run this program from the download link, it restarts IE again and dumps it. I tried opening it from the address bar but then it just hangs up and never finishes downloading.

Ok, so I have Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 installed on my computer, but its no where to be found. How do I get it back into my programs not as the No Add-On Internet Explorer?

Shortmantuff,

Did you try manually creating a IE shortcut by right clicking on the C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe (32 bit Vista) or C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe (64 bit Vista) file, and click on Send To and Desktop (create shortcut), then move this new IE shortcut on the desktop to the Start menu as posted above yet? This is for the normal IE shortcut and not for the "No Add-on" one.
