Re: Take Ownership of file

If you cannot do a System Restore from boot (Method Two in tutorial), then you could to do a Repair (Upgrade) install to try and avoid a clean reinstall of Vista.

Re: Take Ownership of file

In that case, you will need to backup what you do not want to lose to some external media to restore later. It looks like you will only have the option to reinstall Vista back to factory default from your recovery partition or CD/DVD.

Sorry,
Shawn

Re: Take Ownership of file

You might see if you can create a Recovery Disc that you can use to do a System Restore with at startup to a date before the problem.

Yeah, sorry about that .

Have you tried using your admin account to edit the security? I think an admin account can override the permissions.

Try giving the admin group full control.

Re: Take Ownership of file

Has the system still got access?

If so, you can go to the taskschd and make a task to open a command prompt as the system.

%SystemRoot%\system32\taskschd.msc /s

Make it open a command promt. Make sure it runs with highest priviledges and use the "Local Service" account to run it. Make sure its allowed on demand. Then run the task. If all goes well type this into the command prompt.

Icacls c: /grant %username%:f

Hopefully this will give you full access then you can restore access to the admin group.

Also!: Try this, go to my computer, Right click on your C: go to security, click edit, click administrators and make sure all the grant boxes are ticked and NO deny boxes are ticked.

Good Luck, If you need more support you can IM me on MSN.

Well, the only option left to fix this is to do a clean reinstall of Vista back to factory defaults.
