Re: Boot Up

Hi all.

I like the script -- thanks for offering it.

My boot up times are actually slower - by about 5 seconds - after running the Registry defragger and the Disk defragger by Auslogics, though. Additionally, the first reboot after running those utilities wasn't very clean -- the login screen looked extremely distorted for a brief moment. The problem did not occurr during the second reboot, fortunately.

[EDIT]

Boot time (before clean up): 163 seconds
1st Boot after clean up: 168 seconds
2nd Boot after clean up: 167 seconds

This puppy used to boot really fast when I bought it. Then, I made the mistake of following this group's instructions, my boot times have slowed significantly -- even after I went back and set (most everything) to original settings.

Re: Boot Up

Hi TBolt, and welcome to Vista Forums.

This site has a really good Services guide. It also has the default settings listed to help you restore all of the ones you want back to the default setting.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Service Configurations by Black Viper

Look through these other options below to see which ones you would like to use to help improve your computer's performance.

Speed Up the Performance of Vista

Hope this helps,

Re: Boot Up

Hi, Brink. Thank you for the reference to Black Viper and your other tutorials.

BV helped me find a few services that needed some adjustment. I was really hoping that those utilities by Auslogics would have made an improvement rather than a slight lag, but no worries. I have 4 Gigs of RAM and shouldn't complain! lol.

Things are working well enough.

Will keep checking out your tutorials, of course. Thanks again!

Re: Boot Up

With an initial start-up of 468 seconds, it's safe to say that my system 'has issues'. Once everything's up and running, though, it runs fine.

Gateway wants me to send the system to them for a couple of weeks to figure out what's going on, but it'd be a true hassle since I work from my home & need my 'puter.

Your forum suggestions had an immediate impact !

Your boot time script indicated it was taking 468 seconds to launch.

I first configured the system to force the Dual core start, which took boot time down to 410 seconds.

Next, I disabled the TMM, bringing start-up down to 373 seconds.

I'd already implemented the other relevant suggestions, and while it's still not as fast as I'd prefer, I've shaved nearly two minutes from my start-up.

Thanks, guys.
