| Administrator | Re: Index - Windows Search Service Ok Ellepc, That's strange. Do you have UAC turned off? Finish the rest of the tutorial and restart the computer. Afterwards, go back and see if the Windows folder has been restore automatically by Vista. Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Member | .......thanks for the great tutorial! I followed it step by step but can't get it to work. In my case if I compare the screenshot of the registry in this post I have one entry missing (see attached screenshot below). ![]() The missing entry is inside the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Search ![]() If someone of you guys who got SP1 installed could export the whole key and post it here for download would help I guess. I think if I get this missing entry into the registry it will work again. Some help would be greatly appreciated....... |

| Member | Hello Tommy, I do not know if this will help or not, but here is the REG file from system that will add the default DataDirectory back to yours. Attachment 4782 < Click to Download Hope this helps, Shawn Thanks for the quick reply but I managed to create the missing entry myself. I was afraid to do it on my own because the registry is something that must be handled with care. Anyway, after I added the missing entry the "Windows Search Index" was back after restart. This I could do only because of your tutorial. After following your instructions I just ended up with this one missing key entry which I had to add by myself and that was the end of it. Thanks again for the great tutorial and support....... |
