| Re: SP1 FINAL (oem partner download).. I found the SP1 OEM link on Engadget a few days ago, but the file was no longer available to the general public. However, I did end up searching for it on the torrent networks and found a working torrent over at ISOhunt - 6001.18000.080118-1840_iso_client_sp_wave0-frmcsp0_dvd.img The image file provides both the x86 and x64 releases of SP1. After converting the IMG file to an ISO (personal preference), I backed up my machine, went through the install (which took about 25 minutes and a few automated restarts), and all was fine. No noticeable speed improvements as of yet... though some have said that if you've been keeping up with the updates all along, then there may not be a huge speed improvement - more along the lines of fixes and cleaning up code for certain issues. One other thing... I also noticed just before I did my install that another update became available through Windows Update - Update for Windows Vista (KB937287), which is actually two update files, but supposedly required for the SP1 install and removal if something goes awry. I would highly recommend downloading the hotfix BEFORE installing SP1, as well as any BIOS updates and driver updates as well. Apparently Microsoft is waiting on the release of SP1 not because it isn't ready (the code is finalized), but because there were some manufacturers with drivers that weren't too happy with the new service pack - but only a few from what I understand. All in all, worked like a charm. ![]() Last edited by Fraggle.Rock; 02-15-2008 at 10:59 AM. |
