Windows 7 Features for Vista

Windows 7 Aero Snap

What is it?

AeroSnap is a simple but powerful application that allows you to resize, arrange or maximize your desktop windows with just drag'n'drop.

Simple drag a window to a side of your desktop to snap it or drag it to the top to maximize.

When you drag it back to the last position, the last window size will be restored. Really easy, isn't it?

It also works with multiple monitors!

What do I need?

To run AeroSnap on your computer, you need Windows XP or Windows Vista. You need also .Net Framework 2.0 or higher.

AeroSnap BETA - Simple. Clever. Powerful.

Aero Shake brings the Windows 7 Aero Shake feature—which we previewed last week—to your pre-Windows 7 computer. Like the new Windows 7 feature, shaking the active window with your mouse will minimize all other windows; shaking it again will restore them. This one was contributed by reader bobbo33 to the Lifehacker Coders Group, and it's still got a few rough edges, so if you try it out let us know what you think in the comments and we'll see if we can address any issues. Aero Shake is written in AutoHotkey, so if you're a fan of the simple scripting language, you can download the source and add it to your main AHK script. Otherwise, grab the EXE below.

Note
Please keep in mind, that this software is still in beta process. It's stable enough to use, but it's possible that you'll get some errors.
If you encount an error or bug, please take a minute to report.

Thanks norm,

am waiting for public beta before I try Windows 7, but will be nice to try some of the features :D

Windows 7 calculator -The Windows 7 Calculator is a free download for Windows Vista systems only. While mathletes, scientists, coders, and statisticians will appreciate Windows 7's built-in calculator's programmer, statistics, and scientific modes, everyday people will love figuring out things like hourly wages and mortgage payments without a spreadsheet. Yes, it may seem ridiculous to give more than a few lines of attention to something as minor as a calculator, but until you've seen the built-in calculator in the Windows 7 Preview, you haven't known pure calculator bliss. This default calculator goes above and beyond the brick on your desk by including unit conversions, date calculations, and a neat new set of "templates" that let you do things like figure out gas mileage, hourly wages, mortgage payments, leases, and more. Check out some of the calculator goodness in the Windows 7 Preview.
Windows7-calculator.zip - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage

Vista users who want to try out this new calculator can download this zip file, extract it to any location and run the calc.exe file. If you wish to replace the existing calc.exe, first make a backup of C:\Windows\System32\calc.exe and replace it with the one in the archive. Similarly, backup C:Windows\System32\en-US\calc.exe.mui and replace it with the one in the archive.

I gave aero shake and snap a go.
Aero shake from gawker didn't like that it removed all of my gadgets from the desktop. Don't really have much use for it myself. When I rebooted the computer, it dissappeared. Not in programs and features or anything. Don't know why. So went to lifehaker and they have version 1.3 which does not remove my gadgets. Better.
Aero Snap when I first downloaded and installed, it didn't work very well. Then I ran windows update and had to reboot. Now it works great. Noticed that the maximized window, while it covers almost the entire screen, is not actually quite maximized and the glass effect in the title bar remains in effect. Snapping left and right with two different windows gives two side by side windows. Very cool and if you do this kind of thing much, very useful.
