7 updates? 1!/2 hours and still not finished?

Hi All, I got a notice for 7 updates for Vista 64 earlier this evening so I set about installing them with the wizards. It's taken over 2 hours and still not finished. I got "configuring the updates" for about 45 minutes and then "shutting down" for another 45 so I figured something wasn't right so I did a hard shutdown and booted into Ubuntu 64 to post this.
Is there something wrong or is everyone else taking this long?

Re: 7 updates? 1!/2 hours and still not finished?

Definitely something weird going on. I finally got my desktop back but my mouse pointer was jerking around the screen. I went to this forum from Opera and was writing this reply when Vista decided to log off and shut down.
I started again and booted into safe mode, ran Opera, came to this forum. Fine. Didn't know what to look for really so I rebooted normally and that's where I'm at. I've been at these wretched updates all night.
Am I the only one with this problem? Are these genuine MS updates?

...odd. I've got 6 restart-required updates that won't install for some weird reason...they're not stopping me from doing anything, but this is the first problem I've ever had with updates...

Re: 7 updates? 1!/2 hours and still not finished?

Well, for me the list is:

Security Update (KB941644)
Three other plain Updates (KB943411, KB943302, KB943899)
A junk e-mail filter update (KB905866)
And an update for my nVidia GPU which I shouldn't need since I downloaded the latest ForceWare already...

Re: 7 updates? 1!/2 hours and still not finished?

Well I got all the ones Caledo mentions plus another general one. After sitting all evening and then booting into Ubuntu to make my initial post I booted Vista again and it seemed like I was starting from scratch again and had to wait for another hour and a half. Eventually it booted but I now have uncontrollable mouse syndrome.
After the hours of waiting I needed to sleep and so shutdown. Igot one of those "installing 1 update, do not power off" notices. I sat for half an hour waiting for the system to shut down before getting fed up switching off the monitor and going to bed.
This morning it was off and when I startd up I got a "please wait, configuring update" notice. This took another half hour.
I'm confused. Is this SP1? If so I'm not impressed. Both my mouse and keyboard seem to have a mind of their own and everything is really slow.
What is MS up to? Luckily I've got Ubuntu on a dual boot and that runs like a rocket but this is dreaful. I'm having trouble typing as the space bar keeps failing and the mouse is no longer accurate. Playing Half-Life ( a Christmas present)should be fun. This is a good way to force people over to Linux.
Does anyone know what is going on?Is it SP1?

Re: 7 updates? 1!/2 hours and still not finished?

This is a disaster. I can't shut down and have to use the power button and everything seems slightly wrong. My mouse (MS Laser 5000) is all over the place, my monitor (Samsung 226BW) is not performing as well as it was and it's all really slow.
I checked my updates and note that one of them failed last night (a reliability update ironically) so presumably that's what went on this morning but what about all the other problems and not being able to shut down. One of them updates is for Vista Ultimate and cannot be removed!
Frankly I'm disgusted. Why is nobody from MS explaining what is happening?
This must not be a general problem or surely the forums would be blazing.

Horses for courses!
I am a real all rounder. I triple boot XP Vista and Linux flavours. XP is well known for its stablity, Vista I am having no stability problems with. Over the past two years, I have tried 6 different flavours of Linux. I have never managed to keep one of them stable for more than a week. I have also never yet found drivers, other than poor generics, for 20% of my hardware.
