Vista SP 1 fails during install

trustedinstaller.exe crashs. All pre-SP1 updates are installed.
Using Vista Ultimate x64.

Anybody else?

There's a Microsoft support page that addresses failed SP1 installations. Here's the link: Error message when you try to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1: "Installation was not successful" or "An internal error occurred while installing the service pack"

My SP1 installation stops at 12%. I have all of the pre SP1 updates and have tried to install the 'Checksur' kb update as i am getting 80073712 error code but the message I see is that i don't need the update! I have also tried to download and install the standalone but that fails to install too!

Can anyone provide help for either of us?

None of that helped. Tried installing in safe mode as well. I get no error message , btw.

its funny... i posted the solution to this a while ago
simply run error checking.... fix and attempt to recover bad sectors

ripbox - i found your 'solution' and followed it but i am afraid it did not work for me as i still get 80073712 error code appearing after 12%.

Windows crashed the other day and couldn't fix it. After reinstalling I installed SP1 without a hitch. Very interesting...

Note: I did install the all updates before installing SP1.
