Vista Ultimate x64

Hello,
I just tried to install SP1 for Vista Ultimate 64bit edition and came up with the following error. !! 0XC0190036 !! 956/123111 (dinput.dll). I have read some of the forums on this matter and have found that I am not the only one having this issue. From what I have read you can simply delete or change the name of the file and then reinstall SP1 and it will replace the file on the install. My problem is I can’t get back into windows at all even in safe mode nor can I get to any command prompt. If any one can tell me how I can get to a command prompt that would be great as well. I have put my Vista disc in and try to but from CD and it gives me the options to repair or to install now. I have tried to repair but it just sits there repairing. I let it run all night and nothing happened. I have tried to just reinstall but when I hit the Install Now button it goes to a vista background with an hour glass but doesn’t do anything. Again I let it sit there for hours and nothing. I tried booting to the last known good configuration and again nothing. At this point I am lost and feel i have tried everything in my power to fix the issue with no luck. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. My specs are below if that helps. Processor: E8400 3.0 C2D Mobo: EVGA 780i RAM: 2GB PC26400 Video: PNY 8800GTX HDD: 2x 250GB Seagate Barracudas 32MB cache in a Raid 0 Striped. |

Did you get it when it was offered through Windows Update, or did you download manually from M/S site.?
If offered through update then your PC has been passed as compatible, a manual download does not check your system so its not forced to work correctly. |
