Hello,

I just tried to install SP1 for Vista Ultimate 64bit edition and came up with the following error. !! 0XC0190036 !! 956/123111 (dinput.dll). I have read some of the forums on this matter and have found that I am not the only one having this issue. From what I have read you can simply delete or change the name of the file and then reinstall SP1 and it will replace the file on the install.

My problem is I can’t get back into windows at all even in safe mode nor can I get to any command prompt. If any one can tell me how I can get to a command prompt that would be great as well. I have put my Vista disc in and try to but from CD and it gives me the options to repair or to install now. I have tried to repair but it just sits there repairing. I let it run all night and nothing happened. I have tried to just reinstall but when I hit the Install Now button it goes to a vista background with an hour glass but doesn’t do anything. Again I let it sit there for hours and nothing. I tried booting to the last known good configuration and again nothing. At this point I am lost and feel i have tried everything in my power to fix the issue with no luck.

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. My specs are below if that helps.

Did you get it when it was offered through Windows Update, or did you download manually from M/S site.?

If offered through update then your PC has been passed as compatible, a manual download does not check your system so its not forced to work correctly.
