Is it a virus, or did SP1 kill my computer.

Yeh, hi
I just wanted to know what just happened to my computer, last night I installed Vista SP1 from the Windows update in control panel.

When i finished installing it, i went to bed while the computer was shuting down, but i didn't realise until i woke up that my computer still hasn't turned off.

I turn the screen on but it was black, so i hit the restart button.

Everything is fine until i finish loading the OS i get this message on my screen

!! 0xc0000034 !! 249/68667 (_0000000000000000.cdf-ms)

I have no idea what it means, but i'm just getting it.

So yet again i restart my computer to see if i can run it in safe mode, i load some of the system32 files but, i think about half way through it stops at crcdisk.sys.

If theres a way to fix it it would be great.

Also my copy of windows vista is on my harddrive disk and so i can't really get into it to repair my computer.

So i hope there is was a way to repair it, because this computer is just a couple of months old.

Also the reason why i believe it is the SP1 is because i never had problems with windows vista until i installed SP1.

With concern,
NEW-B

Re: Is it a virus, or did SP1 kill my computer.

Let it sit there at the crcdisk.sys (that is not actually where it is hanging, that is simply the last system file that gets displayed). Provided that the computer was in a loop and has finished installing, you may wait for a really long time (I have seen up to 2 hours or more) before all of a sudden it will load again.

If it does not finally start loading (My old P4 system did that the first time I installed SP1 on a forced install) then you might try performing a repair installation from your original Windows Vista DVD.

Re: Is it a virus, or did SP1 kill my computer.

I have let it sit at crcdisk.sys for 3 hours.

But i just want to ask, will it depend on the processor. Because i have 1.8ghz Duel core.

Also, i have given up on safe mode, and i'm trying the system recovery, but i have to wait now for it...

Any idea how long it will take?

Re: Is it a virus, or did SP1 kill my computer.

probably not - Mine was a P4 3.2 GHz (single core with Hyper Threading) and one of the installs where it went goofunky it took only about 1.5-2 hours (I know that it took at least 1.5 because at that point I went to take a shower and eat, and came back in 30 minutes and it had booted, hence the range)....

I am not 100% sure on this, so let me look around and see what others say first - I want to say either Safe Mode or else an installation startup repair, but that might actually complicate matters....

Re: Is it a virus, or did SP1 kill my computer.

Well, I have fixed the problem, so thank you for helping.

What i did was use one of the system restore cd's that came with the computer, and now that i have a fresh start, i dont think i'll be installing SP1 in a long time.

Anyway thankyou very much.

Now i just need to know how to close this thread

Re: Is it a virus, or did SP1 kill my computer.

You'll actually be a lot better off installing SP1 ASAP - the longer you wait the worse it can get.

However, if this is an OEM built machine, contact them for technical support.
