| Junior Member Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Upgrade Enterprise/SP1 - Ultimate/SP1 Hello All, Admittedly, a post out of pure frustration. I want to upgrade from Vista Enterprise/SP1 to Vista Ultimate/SP1 Life is after all more than just work, and i would lke to use Media Center edition. In spite of the fact that I am a Volume license customer with SA and have paid extra for Ultimate media kits, there seems to be no way to upgrade from Enterprise to Ultimate. That is most unfortunate and frustrating as doing a clean Ultimate install may be an option in theory, but, with a mature Enterprise setup, not in practice! I know, by the way, about changing the word 'Enterprise' into 'Business' in the registry., however it makes no difference. The 'upgrade' option remains grayed out and I am being advised to install a 'newer' version?! The exsting setup is Enterprise/SPI and I am trying to go to ULtimate/SP1 which is certainly not older. So why is Vista complaining? If there is anybody out there who could help, I would certainly like to know! Best regards, Boudewijn |

If Retail, that might be your issue.... |

| Junior Member Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Re: Upgrade Enterprise/SP1 - Ultimate/SP1 Hello, Tks for yr reply. The key is not he problem. The problem is the fact that when trying to upgrade from Enterprise/SPI with the Ultimate/SP1 disk, Vista seems to think that i am trying to upgrade with a older version. Checking the file version confirms this. The Enterprise/SP1 disk has largely file version 6.0.6001.18000 whereas the Ultimat/SP1 disk uses version 6.0.6000.16386. That is probably why i can't upgrade. If I could change the file versions on my Ultimate disk... BUt which files. There are simply too many to change them all. That is the problem. Thanks/regards, Boudewijn |

You said earlier

| Junior Member Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Re: Upgrade Enterprise/SP1 - Ultimate/SP1 Hello again, Thanks for yr reply, but I am afraid yo misunderstand, or perhaps I am not entirely clear. I do have an SP1 slipstreamed Ultmate disk. THe problem is that Windows seems to think that this disk is older than what I've got aready installed, hence it refuses to upgrade. See my previous post. Hope this makes sense now. Regards, Boudewijn. |

Edit: BTW, when you tried to trick the system through Regedit, did you also changed the key: EditionID from "Enterprise" to "Business" ? Last edited by sidney1st; 06-13-2008 at 08:34 AM. |

| Junior Member Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Re: Upgrade Enterprise/SP1 - Ultimate/SP1 Hello Sid, Yes to both questions. The problem is that my (VLited) SP1 slipstreamed Ultimate is considered to be 'older' (version number 6.0.6000.16386) then my current version (6.0.6001.18000). Hw do I convince Windows to allow the upgarde? Regards, Boudewijn |
