Access to Registry

It seems that whenever I try to install the recommended software updates. or other software updates (i.e. iTunes), I receive errors stating that access to various registry keys are denied. I've used regedit to change registry permissions..sometimes it works, most times it does not.

Here is an example of a recent failure to update:
The error message is:
Could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes|Interface\{915DA835-02FE-4953-92FA-624BDF85AB}\ProxyStubCLsid.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
I did try to right click the update file and “run as an administer”. Same error message as above.
I tried to edit the key in the register. That error is:
ProxyStubCLsid.cannot be opened. An error is preventing this key from being opened. Details: Access is denied.
I right click on the registry key and select “permissions”. The message is: “You do not have permission to view the current permission settings for ProxyStubCLsid, but you can permission changes.”

If I add a User name and select “full control”, I receive the error Unable to save permission changes on ProxyStubClsid. Access is Denied.”

Lastly, I tried to add a new admin user role (I originally only had one user role with admn rights). I experience the same error messages as the other admin role.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium, SP1.

How does one gain control of all keys in the registry?
