Re: windows vista service pack 1 cannot be installed

Hi, sino1969, and welcome to the forums.

Yo are trying to install the 32bit SP1 - make sure you get the 64bit SP1 instead.

Re: windows vista service pack 1 cannot be installed

Hi sino1969,

Here are the direct links to the standalone versions of the 64-bit SP1 for Vista. I would advise you to burn these onto a DVD so that you have them for the future.

Re: windows vista service pack 1 cannot be installed

Hi sino1969,

The links that I provided are taken directly from the Microsoft website, so they should be correct. Have a look at the following webpage - I know that it mentions 'Windows Update' and 'Automatic Updates', but does any of the information apply to your system, in particular the section on drivers? Without information about the hardware of your machine, we cannot ascertain if this is the case.

If you receive Windows Update error 80070002 while checking for updates, you need to remove the temporary update files that Windows uses to identify updates for your computer. To remove the temporary files, stop the Windows Update service, delete the temporary update files, restart the Windows Update service, and then try to check for Windows updates again.

 1. You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.

Click to open Administrative Tools.

Double-click Services. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
 2. Right-click the Windows Update service, and then click Stop.

 2. Click the Back button. In the SoftwareDistribution folder, double-click the Download folder to open it, and then delete all files in the folder. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

And as you said you are using the 64bit installer. The links that Dwarf posted ***ARE*** 64bit installers - I know because I used the same links - 26 installs to date.
