This problem is not limited to Windows Update installations. Anytime I try to update my version of Vista 32bit Home edition, it gets to 0% Installed and stays there. Then Vista begins to lock up. Can't open other programs, can't use Windows Explorer to do anything. Can't even right click on the desktop to open a menu. Task Manager refuses to open as well. As I said, this isn't limited to Windows Update installations and the exact same symptoms occur when I try to install any other program (tried to install a antivirus program to see if malware was to blame but got the lock-up again).
I have just installed Vista and was in the process of getting it completely up to date. Made it just past SP1 and now this is happening. I'm not even sure where to start looking for fixes or diagnosis as I am entirely unfamiliar with Vista, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.
