| x64 | Vista x64 hp/compaq v6500 Laptop bios nightmare Hi, I am trying to update the bios on a friends vista machine, which will not boot, even into safe mode. I can get to the command prompt via 'repair your computer' or the compaq system recovery option. I have placed the bios patch on a cd and can execute it from the command prompt, however it gets half way through the install and says something like 'you need admin access to do this operation (flash bios)' . I have tried various bootable tools to unlock the administrator account but even logging into the admin option on the restore package I get this error. Compaq recovery allows you to back files up to a usb drive, but doesnt recognise my maxtor 300gb or pen drives. Please help, it would be so easy to do in xp, but im lost on vista thanks in advance, James |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Vista x64 hp/compaq v6500 Laptop bios nightmare I don't know how you could solve this, but I thought I'd post a bit of advice. Sell the V6500 and buy an ASUS You see, I had a V6500, and it literally fell apart, line on screen, battery didnt fully charge, keyboard broke. And I was so delicate with it all. So go out there, sell that, and buy an asus x50rl, its what I did and I've never looked back. Josh Brown |
