Vista - Where is Microsoft Tinker ?

Hi,

I just used Windows Update to install Microsoft Tinker game on my Vista Ultimate x64. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it anywhere to play with it.

Anything wrong, please ?

Hello Alan, and welcome to Vista Forums.

It should have been added to the Games Explorer window in the Start Menu. This tutorial will help show you this location if needed.

I have Ultimate x64.

I have the same problem as the first person. I successfully downloaded Tinker, but cannot find it anywhere. I did find it in Programs and Features, uninstalled it, and then downloaded it again. But still couldn't find the app anywhere.

The Games Explorer download did nothing for me. My Games folder has always been fine, and there was no change after this.

Any other ideas?

UPDATE:
Correction to my previous post. I did NOT find Tinker in Programs and Features. I found it in Installed Updates. I uninstalled it from there, and then reinstalled, but still could not find the app anywhere.

Hi Rmadge, and welcome to Vista Forums.

The Games Explorer tutorial was just for an example of how and where to look for the Tinker game shortcut in the Games Explorer. It was not meant to be used to download and use the reg file in it. The path for the Tinker exe file is at C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Tinker\Tinker.exe .

Couldn't find it in the path you suggested, nor in Program Files\Microsoft Games. And a search on my computer doesn't find Tinker either. Although it is still listed as an installed Ultimate extra.

Run Windows Update again to check and see if it shows back up to be installed again.

Ran update again, and it does not show up. But even more importantly, i checked installed updates, and its right there.

I'm afraid that I do not know what else to suggest for you to try. I'm stumped. Hopefully someone will know something and post it for you soon.

Thanks Shawn. But it just got strange. I found the app.

It's in the folder called C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-tinker.954955_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16748_none_d033bc76015c6b52

Is this where it's supposed to be? Can I just put a shortcut to this onto my Desktop, or is there something wrong with the installation? When I tried running it, Tinker just stopped and I got an error message.

I believe that will be the installation files for it. If it is installed, then you might run a sfc /scannow command to see if it can find and fix any bad system files to hopefully fix this.
