Vista - Error 80070002 when trying to install KB950582

Hi there, I have Vista Ultimate x64 and I simply can't install the update KB950582.

Can it be solved?

Have you tried manually downloading it and installing.

I have tried to download it manutlly and even followed the explenation in the second link. Nothing helps.

Ok here's an update.
The first step and second step didn't help.

It got worse. Since I ran the second step, a new update came up and I downloaded 4 updates (1 recommended, 3 important), 2 failed and 2 succeeded.

1. Security update for windows vista for x64-based system (KB950582) - FAILED

2. Update for Microsoft XML core services 4.0 service pack 2 (KB941833) - FAILED

Please bare in mind that this is a fresh copy of Vista. The first thing I did was installing NOD32 and then ran the update of the virus definition and Visa Update.
I had about 70 updates to install, out of which 2 failed.

I'm not sure I want to carry on to the third step but I would like to get some more assistance.


P.S. - after installing the tool in the 2nd step, I deleted the contents of c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution\download
and datastore

The third step is what Microsoft Update Support would tell you to do and it should fix it if you follow the steps correctly.

What is this new code?

Ok here is an update:
I reported yesterday that there were two updates that I can't install, so I have tried the 3 steps as mentioned in this link: http://www.vistax64.com/software-too...air-tools.html

1 and 2 didn't help. Step No.3 helped half way through... I was able to install Update for Microsoft XML core services 4.0 service pack 2 (KB941833).

Still no luck with Security update for windows vista for x64-based system (KB950582)I continue to receive error 80070002.

An update:
I have downloaded the file Windows6.0-KB950582-x64 in order to install the update manually and then I went into the Even Viewer and I saw this error message that might shed some light:

The Windows update "Security Update for Windows (KB950582)" could not be installed because of an error: 2149842978 "" (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "E:\Downloads\Windows6.0-KB950582-x64.msu" ")

Please please help me with this issue....
