| Vista Ultimate x64 | Continuous reboot, x86 SP1 Hello Friends, I just got done installing Vista x86 SP1 via DVD. After the install, the first thing I did was run microsoft update. After the updates, the computer went through configuration stages 1-3 as expected and rebooted. Once it rebooted, it went back to the configuration stage 3 screen and finished to 100%, again as respected, but then rebooted again. It then continued this cycle, always returning to configuration stage 3 then rebooting. Since I just got done installing, I decided to reinstall and try again just to see if it was a fluke. Same thing. So now I reinstalled again but didn't do updates. I am betting it probably has to do with the latest cumulative security updates, but I really have no idea. I am probably going to try the updates again minus anything recent and then try to install each of the new ones manually to try to narrow it down. Any thoughts? Thanks for your time. Justin |

| vista home premium SP1 32bit | Re: Continuous reboot, x86 SP1 you could try running windows update with administrative privillages.. just right click and select run as administrator. some may argue there is no difference between running with or without privillages, but there has got to be or you would not have the option also, if you installed graphics card drivers along with the other updates. dont install them using windows update because they are something like 2 or 3 months behind the most up to date.. just go to the manufacturers website let me know the outcome mate... |

| Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Continuous reboot, x86 SP1 Hi Justin, I have noticed that when there are a lot Windows Updates available that require a restart each, then it is usually best to only install a couple or few at a time to help avoid them conflicting with each other. Hope this helps, Shawn |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Continuous reboot, x86 SP1 I concur. the only reason I was going to try to downgrade was a conflict I was having between a video card and a sound card that I thought was being caused by 64 bit. Turned out my memory was stirring up trouble between the two. All better now though. ![]() Justin |
