| Vista Home Premium | Windows Update Hangs up When I click on the Windows Update button the box opens and that's it. The cursor tells me that it is working but even after an hour nothing happens. The box is empty. I haven't been able to update in a long time. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks! |

| VISTA HOME PREMIUM X64/ 7 x64 / 7x86 | Re: Windows Update Hangs up Hi Steiff, As you need to get those updates, I would do a repair install, which replaces the operating system files, leaving your own data and programs intact - you need a proper install dvd to do this Repair Install For Vista Hope it helps siw2 |

| VISTA HOME PREMIUM X64/ 7 x64 / 7x86 | Re: Windows Update Hangs up Hi, I would have suggested a System Restore - but it's unlikely you have a restore point all the way back to before the problem started. You could see if the System Updates Readiness Tool from MS applies : Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista and for Windows Server 2008 Do you have a recovery partition ? If so, you may be able to put the machine back to the factory condition - be aware this will erase your data and programs. Or you could look on the recovery partition and if you find a folder named WAU (Windows Anytime Upgrade ). You can burn that as a bootable .iso to a recordable dvd , and you will have an installation disc. You must have a product key to use this - is there one stickered on your machine ? SIW2 |

| vista home premium 32bit | Re: Windows Update Hangs up I finaly had to restore my HP back to factory original to cure the problem. I did find out though it left the sec. partition alone and all the data on it was still there. |
