my vista updater keeps running

I disabled automatic updates and disabled the service, but the updater keeps running. When I boot I get the message: Configuring updates, it runs till 100% back to 80% and to 100. Then I get the message updates have not been configured right, undoing changes...

This way it takes damn long for my laptop to boot...

What sould I do?

Hi, and Welcome to the forums.

Is there any reason you don't want the updates? I used to manually choose and install only the ones I needed but just found that too hard to keep up and too insecure. Now I just let it do it's thing and I never have any problems with updates messing things up.

This sounds like you had updates that d'loaded before you disabled the service, and it's still trying to configure them because they hadn't finished, but it can't because the service is disabled. If there are updates that installed but couldn't configure because of the service disabled, the "Update Configuration utility will still run regardless I think. Try re-enabling that service long enough to allow this update to configure and reboot if needed.

Hi Foe,

You can receive that message from adding or removing Windows Components and you can also receive it from applications that have made various system changes not just from Windows Update...

How long ago did this start happening and what changes have you made to your system recently? (install or uninstall, change settings....)

nope, dit not work. What kind of infodo we need? Or should I just reformat again?

My guess is: the updates for office 2003 are the problem. I got my version of ms office 2003 in a way, to make sure I didn't need to pay for it. I used it for years but only now on vista. The updates always failed on XP but in vista, the updates acts like it worked... but I can't remove them...
