| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Uninstalling Recommended Updates Hello all, My question is fairly simple. If I uninstall the "recommended" updates, will this cause any ill effects to my computer since they are only recommended? I ask because I have an HP laptop with 2 hard drives (both about 200 GB in size) and I just noticed that one of them is not almost completely full (only 3% left) and I haven't been downloading anything (other than the updates) that would eat up so much disk space. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks! |

| Windows 7 RC x64 Vista HP x86 | Re: Uninstalling Recommended Updates Hi deadhead, and welcome to The Vista Forums ![]() First, Removing the "recommended" updates will not make you pc any worse than it was before you installed them. you may find reduced functionality without them but it should be ok. Second, even if you remove the recommended updates I doubt if you will clear a great amount of space on your drive. I would advise you check what is using all the space on the one drive, and try to remove that updates from MS should not take a lot of space. The exception to this would be a Service pack (SP1) and with this you will normally be able to remove the old system files that are replaced when you install the service pack SP1 is I think still classed as a recommended update but contains so much that I would class it as essential. Hope this helps |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Uninstalling Recommended Updates Thanks so much. That was a help. I really appreciate it. I just have one quick question: how do you find the amount of space a particular program/application is taking up on your hard drive? Thanks again! |

Free Download Disk Space Management Software - Relative Rev Backup (RRB) is an intuitive backup software solution that also includes a unique disk library I have used Treesize in the past (pre vista) but you should find something here to suit your needs - Licences vary from Freeware to Demo so price is controllable also |
