error 0x80073712 AGAIN

OK, I'm pretty *** right now!

I bought my laptop brand new in September with Vista preinstalled. I tried to update the system but I couldn't because apparently Microsoft *** up Vista so bad that they didn't even bother testing it properly before the release date to see if it works at all. As we all know, Microsoft is in a monopol market position so it can treat its customers in whatever *** way it wants to.

Ok, enough of the vent.

I spent 1 week tring to figure out how I can update Vista because I kept getting error 0x80073712 all the time. It turned out that the problem was that when Microsoft released Vista, some of the system files were corrupt, and that prevented me from updating. What's more, I was also informed that I could only resolve this issue by reinstalling Vista from CD which I did not have, because I got it preinstalled on my laptop! So, there is no way I can ever get any updates?!?? Naturally, the information that I found on the Microsoft support page was a piece of **.

(The "Windows Features" dialog box is empty in Windows Vista, or you receive an error message that includes the following code when you try to use Windows Update: "0x80073712")

Nevertheless, I still did a system scan, and it didn't produce any results, just as I expected.
After one week of struggling to find a way out of the ** microsoft kindly dumped on me, I found a tweak on another forum, which finally worked!! I had gone through like 10 different solutions before but to no avail. At last, I was able to install updates!! Yay!
But guess what! About 5 days ago, a new update agent v.7.2.6001.788 was released, and I cannot install it because I KEEP GETTING ERROR 0x80073712 AGAIN!! What's more, I again can't install any updates at all!!. WHAT THE H*ELL!! I'm so sick and tired of this!! Why do i have to put up with all this **? I already spent 1 week figuring this one out, and I could download updates for almost 3 months.... It's their fault that they had the guts to release Vista with corrupt system files not mine!!

I need a solution that actually works this time, please!

Re: error 0x80073712 AGAIN

bizso, let's start again. Which laptop do you have? Your manufacturer would have instructions on how to make a recovery disc. Have you made a recovery disc?

You can also take your laptop back to the state it was when it left the factory, as it should have a Recovery Partition.

If all else fails, borrow a Vista Home Premium disc from someone (a friend etc) and reinstall a clean copy, use the key you have to activate.

Re: error 0x80073712 AGAIN

Thanks,
Weel the thing I just wanted to avoid is reinstall Vista or return my laptop to the manufacturer. I`m thousands of miles away from where I bought it and I also need it for every day work...

I guess I have no other option...

sry for being so worked up and explicit. It`s just all the fuss that goes with this that annoys me the most. I bought a brand new computer and it isn`t working. That alone is quite frustrating as I`m not in the situation I can return it. Also, what I don`t understand is how come I was able to solve this error with the System Readiness Tool once, and then I could download updates, but now after 3 months I can`t download again because of the new Update Agent?!

I have ASUS S1GN laptop and Vista was shipped like this, with corrupt system files.

Have you tried a system restore to before the last error?

However if your laptop was shipped with an error your best bet would be to do a clean install.

Run this tool to see if that helps
