Sup guys !

Just got the mu_windows_vista_sp2_beta_and_windows_server_2008_sp2_beta_symbols_x64_289911.iso file.

I extracted it and i got like 5 files : symbols.cab,advpack.dll,symbols.exe,symbols.inf,eula.txt

After that i ran symbols.exe and it create a symbols folder in C:\Windows\Symbols with like 15 folders named "ACM,AX,CAB,etc."

And after that nothing. I still see SP1 when i go in Vista properties ! Any 1 know what's up with that ?

Thanks ! :)

Cheers !

Where did you get it from? I didn't realise it was yet "publically" available, and was only thus far released to Technology Adoption Program customers

If it's not in the public forum, I doubt you'll find a great deal of help on a public forum site

Were there no instructions to follow?

EDIT: Hmm, having a look now and it seems it's available to TechNet and MSDN customers, but will be available to the public on Thursday this week (4th December ... US time I presume)

Question still stands: were there no instructions to follow?

There are instructions there, so my guess is that the poster didn't read very carefully. Another thought also occurred, but I'll refrain from speculating.

You don't extract the .ISO file, you burn it to CD / DVD (depending upon size) and then use it to install SP2 Beta. Alternatively, you can use a Virtual CD Rom program (Virtual Clone Drive, DaemonToolz, MagicISo, ISODisk) to mount the .ISO file and run (I believe) setup.exe if it does not automatically start on its own to install the SP2.

Although, might I add this: If you are not savvy enough to know what an .ISO file is, I would highly recommend that you *not* install this SP2 - it is still a ***BETA*** and can easily FUBAR your Vista install beyond repair. It is called a Beta for a reason.

Hi johngalt,

There are instructions there, so my guess is that the poster didn't read very carefully. Another thought also occurred, but I'll refrain from speculating.

Sorry but there are no instructions on MSDN website anywhere at this moment about the installation. I have read carefully in the download section/forums before downloading it.

I first tried to mount the .ISO with Deamon Tools with no success. Wasnt able to access the Virtual drive. Weird but i dunno i taught i was maybe my .ISO download that was corrupt so that's why i have extract the files from the .ISO. I'm gonna try to burn it on a RW dvd and see... or download again another copy of the .ISO. Just to let you know are no setup.exe on that release.

Although, might I add this: If you are not savvy enough to know what an .ISO file is, I would highly recommend that you *not* install this SP2 - it is still a ***BETA*** and can easily FUBAR your Vista install beyond repair. It is called a Beta for a reason.

Thanks for your help but i'm not that noob... Just wanted to know if some other guys here had the same problem as me...

I would recommend waiting until the public Vista SP2 version is released sometime towards the rumored late April 2009. You would have to uninstall the beta SP2 anyway.

It doesn't say anything about burn this to CD or mount? Surprising. Then again, since it is a Beta, maybe they understand that the folks getting it should be knowledgeable enough to know how ot burn....so sorry about that.

You don't extract the .ISO file, you burn it to CD / DVD (depending upon size) and then use it to install SP2 Beta. Yeah, but you didn't *say* all that, all you said was that you extracted it. It made you sound like a n00b, dude.

Although, might I add this: If you are not savvy enough to know what an .ISO file is, I would highly recommend that you *not* install this SP2 - it is still a ***BETA*** and can easily FUBAR your Vista install beyond repair. It is called a Beta for a reason.

Again, re-read your original post and you'll see why I replied as I did - it sounded like you ahd found a torrent of it, downloaded it and tried to extract it because you didn't know what an .ISO was. A classic case of "Not enough information." And I am betting that others here thought the same thing.

So, sorry about misidentifying you as a n00b and treating you like one - but if it is a corrupt .ISO, they'll have it fixed in a bit. They always do.
