No Error but struggling to install SP1

Hi all, first post here!

I have recently bought a new quad PC and installed Vista Ultimate x64 on it. It installed fine, I activated it and started to get the updates through, after a few hours they were all installed successfully.

However, last night the Vista SP1 update appeared and I am a bit stuck! It says it is downloading but just stays on 0% for HOURS! Then, all of a sudden last night it climbled to 94%, stopped and I got an error from Windows saying the update has stopped working. I ran it again over night and got up this morning and it looked like it had finally downloaded as it was in the install process, asking me to press Next etc. I left it running but when I returned it said it had failed.

Now when I try to run it again, it seems to be stuck on 0% again. I have tried turning the firewall off but nothing happens.

Any ideas? Can it be downloaded manually and installed from somewhere else? Has anyone else had this problem?

Cheers
Tim

thanks for your help Pooch. I ran Check Disk and deleted all the temp files as detailed on one of the MS fixes. I then re-ran the update and noticed it downloaded it fairly quickly and actually managed to complete the install. I have no idea if the fix worked but I am now patched up to SP1.
