Bad sectors in file system after Security Update

I have installed the security patch for IE and I did a disc check afterwards when I noticed , on completion that Windows had made alterations to the file system and that there was 8KB of bad sectors but the disc was clean ! Is this something that I should be worried about ? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi yorkshire lass,

What kind of alterations? Did you run checkdisk right before the update? If not, it might not have been the update that caused the bad sectors. Try running system file checker but I wouldn't be too concerned about it if it says the disk is ok. You could generate a system health report also.

Thank you for replying so quickly ! After the regular monthly updates from Microsoft I had 4KB of bad sectors and I had to repair my computer (had to restart several times and lots of files were loaded) because it would freeze and it said that files were missing, so files were loaded, some of them were called "orphan files ". I then uninstalled a greeting card programme that I had installed from a disc, that the manufacture said was compatible with Vista but when I got the blue screen of death it said to uninstall any software that might not have installed correctly. I then did a disc check (4KB bad sectors) then I did the Internet Explorer security patch on December 18th, installed OK, did a disc check , (8KB bad sectors). Did a McAfee scan, all OK , did Superantispyware, full scan found 1 tracking cookie which it quarantined & removed . Another disc check, all clean but still got 8K bad sectors. !! Now my brain is totally scrambled !!

Yeah, just try to make sure your drivers are up to date and run system file checker and run a system health report to see what it says. I don't know why you would keep getting bad sectors over and over but maybe someone else here will know.

I've just done a system report and it says that my Logitech wireless keyboard is missing a plug in and not working to full capacity (Logitech says all drivers and software is up to date..) but I've had no problems with it . It also says it can find no Anti virus program but I am running McAfee Total security, Windows dDfender and Super antispyware. Thank you for all your help! Where do I find the scales ?

Well, even though it says your logitech driver is up to date, it may not be. You can go to this site and put in your make and model of your keyboard and see if they have a driver update. As to it saying you don't have a AV installed, I wouldn't worry about it because you do have one. the health report's not perfect sometimes. You can check the security panel in control panel to see if it recolonizes it in there.
