| Windows XP | Will I be blocked from windows updates?? I have a Toshiba (A75 series) laptop with a proof of license at the back. But I lost the windows XP installation CD. Should I reclaimed one from the Toshiba or from Microsoft? (Toshiba seems much harder to contact) If I reinstall my laptop with a dell windows XP recovery(desktop), will it be ok?? I mean will my laptop become genuine or legal?? Will Microsoft block me from WINDOWS UPDATING?? Does anyone know how to email or live chat or contact with the microsoft technicians?? I lived in Brunei Darussalam, will there be any surcharge or extra payment (not again) from microsoft or Toshiba?? Thank you in advance!! |

| VISTA HOME PREMIUM X64/ 7 x64 / 7x86 | Re: Will I be blocked from windows updates?? Hi, If I understand you correctly, you have lost the installation cd for your Toshiba laptop and you wish to use a Dell cd to restore to your Toshiba laptop? If the Dell recovery cd is an image of what was on the Dell machine, it will contain the product key and activation code for that Dell machine - it would not activate on your Toshiba machine. If you know anyone who can lend you the Microsoft installation cd for the same edition of XP that was on your Toshiba machine e.g. Home or Pro, you could use that with the Toshiba product key. You may still need to ring to activate. If you wish to get a replacement , you would need to get it from Toshiba. Hope it helps SIW2 |

| Windows 7 RTM 64-bit | Re: Will I be blocked from windows updates?? As said by SIW2, just contact Toshiba and they will send you the Cd for free. but installing a Dell Cd on Toshiba laptop would not be a legal copy as its a DELL OEM copy and is meant only for the specific Dell system. You may not be able to update your windows. Moreover, everytime when you reach at the logon screen, an annoying message will appear saying that your copy of windows is not genuine and you may be a victim of software counterfiet.
