Vista Tutorial - cant change update settings

hi all i havent used windows update in a while it is still working but it wont allow me to change the settings for automatic updates it says the administrator has switched them off and since i am the administrator why cant i switch them back on again any ideas people

Are you positive you're in an administrative account and not a standard account?
Maybe it has been switched. Might want to take a look at this tutorial from Brink. And some other useful tutorials in Tutorials-User accounts.

thanks for the reply i activated the real administrator account but even logged in under that account it still wont let me change the settings i really dont understand i only have vista 6 months so rather than have it update everyday i switched update off for a few months and as far as i know i havnt changed anything else and now it wont let me change these settings its not a major deal i know would be worse if i couldnt update at all i guess

Well, you could temporarily disable UAC, or use the hidden administrator to try to make your change but the thing to wonder is why it won't let you do it in the first place.
