File: ntoskrn1.exe

windows updates cause an error over and over --

Windows boot Manager comes on and states;

Windows failed to load because a required file is missing or corrupt.

that file is: ntoskrn1.exe

Status: 0xc0000098

WTF?????

I have automatic updates turned off, BUT it still eventually recurs!

I have to insert Vista CD to reboot and repair --

theres got to be a solution to this -- please help!

Hi danster.

Could this be ntoskrnl.exe as opposed to ntoskrn 1.exe?

If it is then that's a very important file. Here is some information on how to get it back hopefully.
It gives a couple probable causes.

NTOSKRNL.EXE is missing or corrupt.

ntoskrnl.exe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It talks about XP but I know it still applies. Try the method in here. If it works then after you get into windows you might want to run SFC and checkdisk.

System Files - SFC Command

Check Disk - chkdsk

Re: File: ntoskrn1.exe

just to give you a hint it means NT OS KERNEL (krnl abbreviated)

just wanted to add that has been there in since XP(technically since the NT3?) and that why you are seeing xp there

a very important and necessary system file
