Vista - Windows update problem! - please help!!

My Windows Update won't work now. Tried searching the Internet, but can't find anything. I click it and a white box appears, I have to end the task and it restarts Windows Explorer.



Any help?

You may want to use "system restore" Get back to when Windows update last worked.

You may want to go to the Microsoft update site using internet explorer. Let it scan your system so you can at least get the updates.

See if doing those things gets it working. Good luck.

I've tried System Restore, but with no effect. After the Restore, it reboots and says that an error occurred and my files have not been restored. I've also tried to restore by running System Restore in Administrator mode and still no effect.

The Microsoft update website doesn't scan my computer, it just attempts to open the Updater, and of course, it opens in a blank screen, just like above.

Have you gone to "services" to make sure the updater is enabled? You might make sure it is. If that does not work, I will have to let the more knowledgeable people help you. Good luck.

Hmm, where is "services"?

Don't worry, I found it. It says it is running, I tried to restart but it doesn't. It stuck on "stopping" now.

Anyone else have ideas?

Step 1
Are you getting a specific error message?
If so, go here and check it

Step 2

Start >Run, type
regsvr32 jscript.dll
<enter>

try windows update
Start >Run, type
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
<enter>

try windows update

If still not working, go to step 3

FINALLY FOUND THE ANSWER!!! Took me forever.
Go to the I386 folder in C:/
Locate all the MSXML** files there . . . about 5 or 6
Copy them all to the System32 folder.

Find, defragment, windows update . . . they all came back instantly
Oh, I also did that regsvr32 msxml3.dll first. Wouldn't work before I copied all the files over, did after.

Thanks for finding it, however, the first step didn't work (no error message) and the second step didn't either (the page was not found).

I can't find the I386 folder, so I can't copy all of the files, if you can help me find that.. It'll help.

the I386 folder is on the Old XP install cds, there is no I386 folder directory anymore. and ive checked
i dont know if these will work but these are my versions, all zipped up, just extract them to the specified folder. if not il get the 32bit versions.
