| Vista Home Premium 64 Bit | Anytime Upgrade - Home Premium 64 to Ultimate 64 For a recently purchased PC, am considering purchasing a "Windows Anytime Upgrade" from Home Premium 64 to Utltrimate 64 Search of these forums indicate that there have been problems with this upgrade. But, could not find many such posts after late Summer of 2008. Has anyone done such an upgrade withing the past 2-3 months, and if so, were any problems encountered? SP1 came pre-installed, and some of the early 2008 "problems encountered" posts mentioned that SP1 was not on the Upgrade CD. Can anyone confirm that SP1 is now on the Upgrade CD? Thank you. |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: Anytime Upgrade - Home Premium 64 to Ultimate 64 I have the same question exactly. I am thinking of an upgrade from Premium to Ultimate but my research indicated lots of confusion and problems. I have Vista 64bit Home Premium with SP1 pre-installed. Besides wondering about whether the Upgrade comes with SP1 preinstalled I am wondering what this will do to my existing premium system (i.e. will it be "upgraded" leaving my minimal configuration intact or will it effectively be like a clean install ? ) |

| VISTA HOME PREMIUM X64/ 7 x64 / 7x86 | Re: Anytime Upgrade - Home Premium 64 to Ultimate 64 Hi, You can do either an upgrade install ( should leave your data/apps. intact ), or a clean install with the upgrade dvd. Don't know how much of a rush you are in , but Win7 will probably be out before Christmas (I am typing this from 7 right now). You may/may not want to "upgrade" to that instead/ as well. SIW2 |

SIW2 My main motive for Ultimate Edition is to be able to install Virtual PC 2007 and then create a virtual machine for running Windows XP (isolation for my son's games on XP from a more business-oriented home office PC). Alternatively, is it straightforward to shrink the current boot disk for Vista64 Premium and create a multi-boot system: Vista64 or Win XP Pro Which path would you suggest is easier and best to achieve this larger goal of "separation of usage"? Thanks. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Anytime Upgrade - Home Premium 64 to Ultimate 64 Is Vista going to be discontinued? Or is 7 just a Vista upgrade which is what it sounds like to me) |

| Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 | Re: Anytime Upgrade - Home Premium 64 to Ultimate 64 @jjamjatra how hard it is to multiboot depends on how hard it is to get XP drivers. Also if you install XP 32 bit then you'll be limited to 4 GB minus device io memory that's mapped into that space. Which may not be a big deal. I'd search for XP drivers before deciding. |

| VISTA HOME PREMIUM X64/ 7 x64 / 7x86 | Re: Anytime Upgrade - Home Premium 64 to Ultimate 64 Hi, SP2 for Vista will be released shortly (before 7 is released for obvious P.R. reasons). It largely consists of the updates since SP1. There is also an improvement to a/v for streaming HD content, enhanced Directx support and the ability to write data files on Blu Ray drives -a couple of other things, like Feature pack for wireless ( previously available thru. oem's) and some changes to power management policies. After that, just security updates for several years ( M$ still do security updates for XP). Existing stock of Vista pc's will be cleared by offering free upgrades to 7 for those who purchase them in / after July ( not sure of the exact date for that). The plan ( or hope ) is to get machines pre-installed with 7 in the shops by Christmas. Vista sales will stop dead. SIW2 |

| Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 | Re: Anytime Upgrade - Home Premium 64 to Ultimate 64 SIW2, not to hijack the thread but is there someplace to get more than "an update for vista" or "a vista compatibility update" on what these updates are? I just tried for like the 5th time to put SP1 on my 32 bit Vista machine. I got the rolling back blues. Did the prep fix and all the crap. Still no go. Only thing I really want is if there's a fix for shell slow copy. But the descriptions "fixes some compatibility issues" tells me nothing. Any more in-depth descriptions for each update on some site somewhere? I was using TeraCopy, now KillCopy as a work-around but it would be nice to just use the shell copy, if I knew which fix it was. Search on slow shell copy only turns up the hang "calculating time remaining" which fix I've already applied. |
