Vista - Outlook 2007 And Vista SP 1 gone wrong

Hope someone can help here. I left my computer loading Vista SP 1 the other night, and when I came down something had happened during the installation and I could no longer boot my computer etc. I had a new hard drive to put in which I did and installed a clean Vista Basic onto it. I thought I would be able to get the files from the damaged hard drive onto the new hard drive but I cant. I am desperate to get the emails from Outlook 2007 on the old drive onto the new?? Can anyone tell me how to do it or is all hope lost.
I have never had trouble like this with XP!!!

What exactly happens when you try to boot your computer? Are you able to boot into safe mode and try a system restore? Any error messages?

I can boot my computer now, using the new hard drive. I have also installed the older hard drive with the broken version of Vista etc. in the computer so it can be accessed. I can see all the files on the older hard drive but don't know how to get my old emails from the older hard drive. I have tried opening OUTLOOK 2007 from there but it will not let me

Do not forget to set your computer to boot the old Hdd again. (maybe take the new one out it might be better.)
