Vista - KB929777 cannot be installed

first thanks for this forum, its great source of knowledge. I tried to find solution for my problem - there is many similar threads - but nothing helped me.
My problem is related to 2x2GB of RAM. I installed Vista 64bit SP1 on this ammount of RAM, installation was extremly slow, but succesfull. Booting of system and whole work is also very slow. I found solution, that I should remove 2 GB, apply KB929777 fix and then return the ram back to 4 gigs. Its not working - when installing the patch, I receive error "This update does not apply to your system". This update is not already installed. I tried install in SAVE mode - not working. I tried to switch the RAM sticks - not helping. System is supporting 4 gigs. Is there anything else what I can try? I am thinking about to flash new (or old) BIOS, but is there anything else? Hi vochomurka,

If you have SP1 installed, that patch is part of the service pack, thus the "This update does not apply to your system" Meaning the patch is already installed, via SP1. - Hotfixes and Security Updates included in Windows Vista Service Pack 1

You problem lays elsewhere, maybe faulty RAM?

Something else is causing your problem
Post your system specs it will help to work out what this problem is

sygnus21 - I tried to run system with one RAM stick and then with second, in both cases without problem. Also stick1+stick2 and stick2+stick1 config gave same result.

pooch - my system config is:
core2duo E4300, 1,8 GHz not overclocked
2x2 GB RAM AData, DDRII 800
mobo MSI G31M3
HDD WD 80GB on IDE, 200 Samsung GB on SATA
LG dvd writer on IDE channel
SB Audigy 4

OK, Let's see if your RAM is problematic...

You can use Window’s Diagnostic Memory tool by typing "memory" in the "Start" Menu search box, you’ll see the first option to come up will say “Memory Diagnostics Tool”.

Click on that and choose “Restart Now and Check For Problem (Recommended)” once Windows restarts it will check your memory for errors before fully loading. Once Windows loads wait about a minute and it will tell you if you have any problems. Likewise you’ll see in the diagnostic window if you have any errors.

so first results of memory tests.
stick1 in slot1 - OK
stick1 in slot2 - OK
stick2 in slot1 - OK
stick2 in slot2 - OK

Now is running test of st1 in sl1 together with st2 in sl2 - almost one hour!! I am curious how much time it takes (I choosed the extended test). When I try enter test options, the screen is rendering like in old movies - line by line

OK, so both tests finished correctly. But I remember, that on some other forum somebody post solution, to make clean install on 2 GB and then insert second memory stick. But I dont trust that it can help, what´s your opinion??

Since you already have Vista 64 installed there's really no need to do a reinstall strictly based on the fact that you have 4gig of memory installed. And, as I've already pointed out, SP1 already addresses the more than 3 gig issue that that patch you were trying to install does, so again, that patch isn't going to solve whatever issue you're having. And if your Vista 64 disk already has SP1 included, reinstalling Vista and trying to install that patch will still result in the "This update does not apply to your system" message!

Now...here's an idea for you if you still want to reinstall Vista 64...

If your Vista 64 disk has SP1 included with it...you should be able to install without removing 2 gig of memory. And for the record, I’ve installed Vista x64 3 times with 4gig of memory installed in my system and have had not issues…even before applying SP1.

If your disk doesn't have SP1 included with the disk, then you could try removing 2 gig and installing the OS.

Maybe running Vista 64 on a 1.8 gig processor might have something to do with the slow performance? Not sure. Also check the BIOS to see if your RAM is running at the correct timings and voltage.

The idea that re-installation can help was not mented as to "reinstall on 2gigs, apply patch, insert another 2 gigs". It was nothing to do with the patch, just the idea that if I install (with or without the patch, SP1) on working configuration, that then I can insert remaining RAM. I understood it that if I install on not-working configuration, some record (or anything else) will be maded in system and nothing will help. But as I wrote, it was only idea from some other forum.
Regarding my processor - with 2 gigs system is running absolutely great, booted in less then a minute, quick response - heaven on earth . But after inserting another 2 gigs, .... .
And regarding the voltage and timing, I am not sure, I have all settings to default now. I must first check the RAM manufacturer for working values.

So my timing and voltage should be default, so I dont know, should I try to change it? How much I can? I have A-Data, DDR2 800, 2GB/stick.

Second point - what about to try flash different bios? Older or newer?
