Updates. 1 to 3 Problem. Driving me crazy. Please, help.

    Hello,

I have Windows Home Premium 64 Bit and every time I restart I get a message saying 1 to 3 updates ... I then see this message again on startup.

I feel like something is wrong with the update system. I reinstalled Vista and disabled automatic updates.

However, after a while I started to get the same problem.

I have Office, Visual Studio, Messenger and a few Adobe products installed.

I tried everything I could think of to find the problem but no luck.

Does anyone has any idea why do I get this problem?

    Thanks,
    Miguel

Do all updates from the administrator account.

If it is looping while configuring updates, it is best to do a microsoft system restore then disable automatic updates.

The only way I know how to access system restore when the computer is looping is to use a Vista install disc, not a manuf. recovery disc, select repair my computer then click on system restore.

If you don't have one, ask someone you know or have someone make you a Vista Recovery Disc which you can find on the internet

But I have been doing that since the beginning.
In fact I have only one account: the one I created when by computer ran for the first time and it is administrator.

I don't have a Vista CD. I have however the System recovery disks I created after the first start of the computer. Is this ok?

If I get another DVD from Vista and use it for restore it will be ok for my system? I mean, the two cd's will have different serials or not?

And when doing repair will I loose my installed softwares?

    Thank You,
    Miguel

I followed the steps and it solved it.

But does it means I can't use updates?
Should I rename the folder back to its original name?

    What else should I do?

    Thank You,
    Miguel

Am so happy that i helped u.

The answer for ur question, No u can use the updates.

But the current update list & and the downloaded updates will be hidden from visat's view.

So vista will create another folder with the same name and will use that folder for updates.

    No need to worry.

Yes I noticed that the folder SoftwareDistribution was recreated.
And should I delete the old one? The one I recreated?

Or copy its contents for the new one? (I think this will create the problem again or not)?

    Thanks,
    Miguel

No need to copy the contents. It will download those updates automatically.

This thread can be marked as solved. (Mod)
