Have 32bit want 64bit

I just recently took an interest in learning everything about my computer and im in the process of upgrading it, and wanted to upgrade my ram but was told with 32bit it can only take 3.56GB and I want to upgrade to 6.

I dont know much about Operating Systems, and would like to know how I can upgrade it to 64bit

Re: Have 32bit want 64bit

Do you want upgrade to 6GB ddr2 or 6gb ddr3?

If it's ddr2, you'd be better off with 8GB to keep it in dual channel interleaved mode compared to dual channel asynchronous mode.

Now, did you buy Vista x32 or did it come with the machine pre-installed?

If you bought it yourself, you should be able to contact Microsoft and get them to send the x64 version. It's free, but you'll most likely have to pay for postage.

If it came pre-installed with the machine, your best bet would be to contact the manufacturer and see if they do a free upgrade, otherwise you may to purchase another copy.

Either way, it will require a fresh installation. It's not possible do an in place upgrade of x32 to x64.

Do what smarteyeball said. And just take note you can NOT upgrade 32bit to 64bit. You must to a clean install.
