friend did auto updates now nothign works, cant roll back uninstaller wont work, installer fails, heres the logs

the above lofg is only around a quarter of complete logs . post only allows 10000 characters and log is in excess of 340000 so ive attched it in notepad form in ite entirety. none of these problems occured pre a windows update.
will look into what you have already pointed out but i think the matter is alot deeper than just those and its a one huge headache as im trying to fix it via forum posts and dont have direct access to the machine its all on!

If you cant perform a system restore, you might just have to perform a complete pc recovery, and then restore backup.

the pc the system is on is used as a gaming server so downtime is a major issue. the biggest problem lies in the fact windows installer wont work if we can fix this it would allow us to at least work on some recovery but as it stands with insatller out of action and no obvious way to repair its a real headache.

Try these commands in elevated command prompt.

msiexec.exe /unreg hit enter,
msiexec.exe /regserver hit enter.

These commands will reset the registration of windows installer. This may help u

If this is a server it should have had a complete pc backup image created (I hope)
The fastest and easiest way to get it back up is to boot up the recovery utility, and re-image the drives. Itll take less than 30 minutes.

Otherwise, I would just completely re-install. Windows is too corrupted to attempt a repair. Re-install O/S or restore with backup image from advanced recovery By booting into the vista disk.

If this is a O/S other than Basic or Premium, you should have created a image with the Vista complete PC backup utility, If it is Premium or Basic, a image must be created with third party software like Paragon. If, like I said, you failed to create a backup/image, you are most likely going to have to re-install if you cannot boot into the advanced Vista disk (Repair) recovery utility and perform a System recovery. Do not attempt to perform a system recovery from within Windows- It must be performed outside of the Windows enviroment with the Vista recovery disk.

lol i wish but the guy whos machine it is didnt make an image!
still leaves the problem as to why windows updates casued installer failure which resulted in all this.. and googling installer errors it does sem to be a mjor issue

What O/S is this, and have you attempted booting into the recovery utility off the Vista disk?

For whatever reason, this sytem is too corrupted to be repaired. You must either:

1. boot into disk and perform system restore to a point before the corruption occured (undo it)
2. reimage the drive(s) with a backup
3. Reinstall O/S from scratch/or perform a repair installation

If you do not have a disk create one with this:

If it is Ultimate/business it will have shadow copy

You can attempt to restore the Windows folder using previous version (shadow copy)

I'm also having problems with this...

The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was 80040155 from line 293 of d:\vistasp1_gdr\com\complus\src\events\tier2\service.cpp. This may indicate that the COM+ Event System is not properly installed. Please try reinstalling the COM+ Event System.

I can't see any way to restore from a "shadow copy".

Any ideas?
